Staying Nourished During Winter

“I need to hire a nanny.”

“Right on,” I thought, while a client, a sharp and savvy business woman, described how her demanding work schedule leaves her with little energy to stay on top of everyday chores, and in particular, to prepare nourishing food.

Sound familiar? It does to me. I know a lot of successful adults who would both benefit and be down for the same perks afforded to some kids – midday naps, milk and cookie time, and a nanny. Sign me up!

As we head into the colder and darker winter months, the topic of how to eat well while keeping up with all of life’s demands is a common theme in therapy.

Nourishment comes in all sorts of ways, and means different things to different people, however, our body’s need of the nutrition provided to us by nourishing food is something we all have on common. Likewise, staying regulated in both energy and mood are directly linked to what we are putting in our tummies.

Are you one of those people who, after all is said and done, has no precious time left to shop for and prepare nourishing and satisfying meals with healthy ingredients?

If your budget allows and you need a little assistance in this area (a little nannying of sorts), here are two local and delicious resources:

Useful, practical and to the point. A lot of people will be nodding their heads when they read this. Forget about the money. SHOW ME THE LENTILS! (Throw in some spinach and a handful of pasta, and you’ve got a real healthy meal.
    A good one, Nicole.

      Hi Mom,
Thanks for being such a cheerleader. Agreed about the spinach, lentils and pasta. I would suggest sticking with brown rice pasta ( I know I know, that might be a crime for the Italian pasta lover in you), but it is oh-so much more nutricious and allergen free than wheat pasta.

Love those resources. Blue Apron Meals also is doing some great stuff affordably… or do what I do and find the healthy foods you can eat (almost) daily and make big batches!

Thanks for the new resource, and sharing your healthy and time efficient practice of having big batches of nutritious food (brown rice and lentils, perhaps?) in the fridge and ready to go. What a great service Blue Apron Meals is providing: “Fresh ingredients, Great Recipes, Delivered Weekly To your Home.” Thanks Jemma.
      Warmly,

      Nicole
