The Healing Power of Play
I do not think I have ever refused an invitation when the opportunity to engage in some good old-fashioned play is up for grabs. Take the above moment between Arlo the dog, a grandmaster of play, and myself hanging upside down from a swing.
Many of my clients are so busy keeping their heads above water on a daily basis, that they lose touch with the impact of what just five solid minutes of play can have on the body, mind and spirit. One of my roles (and personal super powers) is to remind them to play.
I imagine Stephen Nachmanovitch, musician, author, computer artist, and educator, knows a thing or two about the healing power of play. He writes:
“Play
is the free spirit
of exploration–
doing and being
for its own
pure joy.”
There must be a swing, a slide or something that tickles your fancy near you.
Go play.
Warmly,
Nicole
I love the reminder to play and keep a balance in our lives. My little dog and horses help me to slow down and play every day.
Hi Lisa,
Well said. Dogs and horses are such powerful silent communicators of so many wise things that help keep the balance.
My cat is a Zen master.

Nicole
To play is to thrive!!!!! My dogs remind me everyday with their unbound delight just chasing a ball. Simple!
Fun!
Hi Kathleen,
Yes, I totally agree. Dogs are amazing teachers of play, and how to keep things simple. Good life lessons.
Warmly,
Nicole
